FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Dear visitors and customers!

Many questions are raised when one suddenly notices moisture or mould damages in a building. However, it is not just the damage which raises questions but also its possible solutions and, most of all, the precise procedure to follow.

We present the most frequently asked questions - as well as their answers - which we have confronted during our long experience in this sector.

This compilation does, however, not replace the personal contact and the clarification of individual queries via telephone or a personal encounter with us. Please, do not hesitate to contact us.

ANALYSIS

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN ANALYSIS?

During the analysis, our expert determines the cause of the damage on site. Depending on the necessity, he will apply various measures using various measuring instruments. Our staff are specifically trained to conduct  a professional and correct analysis because it is the basis of the preparation of an individual concept.

HOW LONG DOES AN ANALYSIS TAKE?

The duration of the analysis depends on the property and its damage. You can minimize the duration by preparing the floor plan and other relevant information about the property. The analysis of a single family home usually takes about 30 to 90 minutes.

DO YOU ALSO PREPARE SURVEYS?

In some cases, we prepare short expert reports or professional statements for our clients.

Should you be interested in a detailed survey, we are happy to recommend you a technical expert for moisture and mould damages from our network of experts.

HOW DO YOU PRECEDE AFTER THE ANALYSIS?

If you place the order with us, our ISOTEC expert will agree upon a binding start date for the renovation work and its duration with you.

IS THE ANALYSIS NON-DESTRUCTIVE?

In oder to make a well-grounded statement about the cause of the damage, it might be necessary to open up the construction or drill some holes. This usually only affects the damaged area that is later to be renovated. Our expert is perfectly trained and will prevent unnecessary dirt and destruction wherever possible. However, he will consult every detail with you in advance.


PLANNING

CAN I CONDUCT ANY OF THE WORK MYSELF?

Depending on the work, there may be preparatory jobs which you can do. However it is not possible to assist with the procedures which are subject to guarantee. Please, get in touch with your ISOTEC expert.

WHO DOES THE PLANNING OF THE RENOVATION?

Your individual renovation concept is prepared by the expert who executed the analysis.

HOW LONG DOES THE PLANNING TAKE?

The volume of a renovation concept depends on the cause and the property. But we can usually present you the individual concept for your property after two weeks at most.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY PLANNING?

After the analysis, we prepare an individual renovation concept for you. We attach great importance to individual and solid solutions. Every damage is different and requires an individual concept in order to assure a permanent and secure renovation.

IS THE INSURANCE ENTITLED TO PRESCRIBE THE RENOVATION COMPANY?

Definitely not! There are a number of court rulings on this topic. An insurance company is not entitled to prescribe which renovation company you have to choose.

ARE YOUR SERVICES INCLUDED IN ONE OF THE FUNDING PROGRAMMES OF THE KFW BANK?

Yes. Some of our services are included in the KFW funding programme No. 152 “Energy effficient renovation”. Therefore, the ISOTEC Exterior Sealing is completely coveredin cases of heated basements.

Our EnEV-compliant interior insulation system is also included in the funding programme.

WHAT IS THE RENOVATION BONUS?

The Renovation Bonus is a German publicly fundedprogramme, which refunds up to 1.200€ of your renovation costs. The bonus is claimed in the tax declaration. Your local ISOTEC expert can advise you of the details.


RENOVATION

DO YOU ONLY EXECUTE WORK ON THE INTERIOR?

No. As experts of moisture damage, we also execute classic exterior sealings with the corresponding excavation works.

HOW MANY YEARS DOES YOUR GUARANTEE COVER?

We issue an extended guarantee of 10 years on our sealing works, although the implied warranty is only 5 years according to the German civil code. Important: The guarantee not only refers to our products. It also includes the impermeability of all our work and provides a relatively complete protection.

HOW MUCH DIRT IS CAUSED DURING RENOVATION?

In our 25 years of experience, we have developed several measures to minimize builder‘s dust. By applying these measures, we narrow down the expansion of the inevitable dust to the renovation area and reliably protect adjacent rooms. This enables you to make use of these rooms during the renovation process.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND AFTER RENOVATION?

Depending on the degree of dampness in the masonry, the drying process may take up to several months. Your ISOTEC expert can give you an estimation of its duration before an order is placed.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO STAY IN THE HOUSE DURING THE RENOVATION?

Whether you can stay in your house during the renovation process or not depends on the size and volume of the renovation. Your ISOTEC expert can certainly give you a more precise answer. In many cases it is possible to execute the renovation in sections. Some work only needs to be realized in specific rooms or on certain floors. Our staff are trained to minimize the renovation area as much as possible in order to maintain your comfort.

DO I HAVE TO BE PRESENT DURING THE EXECUTION OF RENOVATION WORK?

No. In most cases, it is not necessary to be permanently present. Usually, it is enough if you provide us with a telephone number in case of queries and access to the renovation area.

 

IS THE RENOVATION VERY NOISY?

Depending on the measure, our work may cause an increased background noise. Our staff always strive to keep noise levels as low as possible. But in order to guarantee permanent renovation success, a certain background noise is inevitable.

COMPLAINTS? WHAT SHOULD I DO?

The success of our renovation work has been approved by science as well as practical examinations. If you should have any questions or complaints with regard to our work, please get in touch with us immediately. Our ISOTEC expert are happy to help you.

WHAT IS YOUR RATE OF COMPLAINTS?

We track our rate of complaints diligently.

Of course, we do not work 100% error-free. However the rate of complaints within the ISOTEC Group has been less than 1% over the years and we are very proud of it.

If, however, something does not seem right to you after the renovation, please contact us as soon as possible. We assure you a quick solution.


STAFF

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOUR STAFF HAVE?

All of our craftsmen are skilled bricklayers or plasterers. During their further training at ISOTEC, they become experts in the renovation of moisture and mould damages.

DO YOU OFFER FORMAL TRAINING?

Yes. We offer training in our German offices. The ISOTEC group is proud to be one of the biggest instructors of the "Holz- und Bautenschützer" (preservation of wood and structures) profession. We also train people in the office.
